Native American Celebration

This past November we celebrated Native Americans by devoting a whole day to learning about their history and culture. Second, Third and Fifth graders all study Native Americans in some form, so we all got together to do some cross divisional learning. We contacted several known sources to help us out. We decided to rotate 6 hands on stations. Some of our activities included: pottery, tools, stories, cave art, archery, and lacrosse. All students and teachers were treated to a big native foods lunch buffet and an authentic pow-wow after lunch.

It was an outdoor event and the kids all loved every station we visited. I highly recommend planning and implementing a day like this! It was worth every minute (hours) we spent getting it ready.
